To quote the essay: Each department and school should examine....... the diversity of perspectives in its curriculum; and the openness of its hiring and admissions practices to dissenting or underrepresented traditions.”:
Did you even read that statement!!!!! It is not like we don't know how Yale faculty and staff define dissenting or unrepresented traditions. They have been tellings us what they are for the past 20 years
In other words, money will be spent, faculty and staff will waste time in choir meetings reaffirming their progressive credentials, and nothing will change.
It’s a trust issue, sure, but that trust issue has arisen over a very long period of time (since Harold Bloom’s first problems) as a result almost exclusively over administration/student body immaturity, and that immaturity’s poisoning of control of institutional power.
Jousting with prevailing canons of academic thought used to be the high ideal of Academia, but cultural squabbling over who is read, rather than what is read largely terminated dialogical jousting, and led to marginalization of literature as an open, unabridged aesthetic enhancement of life to the Derrida, Foucoult, et al ascendance of power.
History and the social sciences (education, even statistic) followed, as the immaturely authoritarian administrators followed the dicta of their even more immature student electorates into academic irrelevancy. Colin Falck’s Myth, Truth and Literature make the philosophical case.
But it went further still with Roland Fryer at Harvard, and even into mathematical physics with Eric Weinstein over “string theory’s” domination (Edward Whitten) of inquiry beyond Einstein’s General Theory. We’ve come “a long way baby” from the ivy-covered “jousting with prevailing canons of thought.
Helpful maybe for tenure-tracking professors, and the plethora of administrative hires Academia has seen since Harold Bloom’s first became a Yale Department of one! Hardly the same for the students paying for that “education.”
The fix is in, and it isn’t a fix for Yale or Harvard, notwithstanding their research pretensions. It is the University of Austin, and other academic alternatives that can avoid the authoritarian class of latter day “control freaks,” whose inability to tolerate difference is at the root of this kind of adolescent immaturity.
Until the Yales replace adolescents with adults the institutions will offer and the students will have to accept an inferior and less rigorous academic diet than that, which was offered when these schools made their legitimate reputations!
Once again, The Neo-Orthodoxy Academy is trying to convince us that the same people who created the mess that is the current university--both at Yale and pretty much everywhere else--are going to be the ones who will clean said mess up.
I declare The Neo-Orthodoxy Academy to be officially part of the problem. Readers, respond accordingly. Not falling for this tranparent attempt at damage control.
Defund, dissmantle, and re-invent higher education--Now.
Hoping Yale comes through. It would be a demonstration that it’s possible to right the ship.

Sorry, No sale today!!!
It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.” MacBeth, William Shakespeare
